A complete set of bathroom products in Australia runs from around $3,500 for an essentials fit-out to around $24,000 for a luxury one, before tiling, plumbing and labour.
This report prices a full bathroom as a basket of products: the toilet, vanity, tapware, shower, screen, bath, mirror and accessories, at four fit-out levels. The single biggest cost in almost every bathroom is the bath, and the choice that changes the most is whether you include one at all.

With or without a bath
The bath and its filler are the largest line in the package, at about a third of the total. Removing them, for a shower-only bathroom or an ensuite, brings each level down to roughly:

What this means for buyers
Put the money into the bath, vanity and toilet first. These three items are about 60% of the package, and they are the largest and most-used pieces in the room. A higher-quality version of each is visible and noticeable, unlike a step up in a tap or a hook. Set these first, then fit the rest of the budget around them.
The bath sets your budget more than any other single choice. At about 30% of the package, it is the biggest lever you have. Choosing a freestanding statement bath, or going shower-only, moves your total more than any other decision in the room.
Upgrading all the tapware costs less than most people assume. Taps, mixers and accessories are only about 15% of a full bathroom, so moving to designer finishes across all of them adds a small amount to the total while changing the look of the whole room.
The jump between tiers is mostly the big items. Moving from essentials to mid-range roughly doubles the total, and almost all of that increase is in the bath, vanity and toilet rather than the smaller fittings. You can mix levels, for example a premium vanity with mid-range accessories, to land where you want on price.
