2. Plumbing requirements

Every bidet, Washlet, and smart toilet needs a connection to the cold water supply. If your toilet already has an accessible shut-off valve and flexible hose, the job is straightforward. If new water lines are needed - for example, when retrofitting an older bathroom or fitting a freestanding bidet - costs climb quickly.

  • Backflow prevention is mandatory. Under AS/NZS 3500.1:2021 and AS/NZS 2845.1, any bidet or Washlet outlet that sits below the rim of the toilet bowl is classified as a high-hazard backflow risk and must be protected by a compliant backflow prevention device.
